What is the internet, how does it work? Learn to configure your computer, web and email browser to suit your requirements. Tips on avoiding junk-mail, downloading, sending attachments with email, and more. 3-hour classroom session $180 (Max. 6 students @ $30 each).

 

7. HTML coding

Create a webpage using nothing more than a simple text editor such as Window's Notepad or Mac's SimpleText. It helps if you have a web browser to view the result! There is nothing difficulate about HTML code - you just need a good eye for written detail. If you are serious about Web-building then eventually you will have to understand HTML code. Online instruction via email. HTML-Basic $60. A series of 6 lessons that start out short and simple, then build in complexity. Advanced lessons are $20 each thereafter.

8. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

One of the best ways to ensure continuity of style across a website with many pages. Makes applying a fresh look to old content very easy. Lessons instruct you on an efficient method of building a useful style-sheet template that documents usage and effect. This module also looks at what works and what doesn't between Internet Explorer and Netscape navigator browsers. 9. Web Images

Describes the various components used to create the overall visual presentation of the website – logos, headings, drawings, photos, animations, text content, lists, tables, frames, forms. We look briefly at the skill levels and tools required with overviews of how the various effects are achieved. Includes tutorial on slicing images using Photoshop. Online study $60. 10. Web Animation

Choose from 3 tutorials that introduce the basic concepts of simple web animation using GifBuilder (shareware for Mac) and Macromedia Flash.

11. The navigational shell

Looks at various ways of putting a website together in terms of user navigation. Covers setting up and targeting frames, and some basic javascript functions such as 'roll-overs', tool-tips, status bar messages, pop-up windows, and more. Online study $60 includes mentor. Notes only $25.

14. Basic In-Design

Learn by doing! A series of quick exercises that take you through Adobe In-Design's main tools and functions. Get a handle on master-page template setups. These exercises use In-Design to build on important concepts that form the basis of most "desktop publishing " packages. 15. Basic Illustrator

Learn by doing! A series of quick exercises that take you through Adobe Illustrator's main tools and functions. Get a handle on 'bezier' curves. These exercises use Illustrator to build on important concepts that form the basis of most "drawing" packages. Online course includes mentor $60. 3-hour classroom session $180 up to 6 students. 16. Basic Dreamweaver

Desktop publishing for the web. For the experienced, Dreamweaver makes professional web development a lot easier. Although a novice can produce web pages with Dreamweaver I highly recommend the concepts covered in Modules 3, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13 as very useful prerequisites.
Two 3-hour classroom sessions $300 up to 6 students.

17. Basic Fireworks

Fireworks, web-imaging software, performs like a cross between bitmap and vector imaging programs resulting in small size image files. Tutorial takes you through the basic tools and functions. Online course includes mentor $60. 3-hour classroom session $180 up to 6 students. Notes only $35.
