Self-paced and supported learning
DAT offers a range of just-in-time training tutorials in digital media and publishing. Our courseware is aimed at people currently working at the fringes of digital media technologies – people in small business or small departments within larger organisations who wish to extend their range of media development skills for in-house projects.
Individual or small group training is available either online or at your premises. All programs are suited to either Mac or Windows-PC users unless stated otherwise.

We offer individual modules in Web Planning, Development and Publishing, as well as tutorial support in Database Management and Content Management (programming/scripting techniques). DAT has also developed a simple stand-alone web-based learning package suitable for K–6 school intranets [ see SATORI - Student and Teach Online Resource Interface ].

This course explains the importance of overall planning and examines the varying levels of need for creating an internet presence. Project managers and/or decision makers are asked to identify individual components of their business such as product/service, company, market, vision/goal. A comprehensive approach to identifying the level of investment required (if at all) to meet your online marketing need. Online study plus 5-hour classroom workshop. Price on application.
Create a webpage using nothing more than a simple text editor such as Window's Notepad or Mac's SimpleText. It helps if you have a web browser to view the result! There is nothing difficulate about HTML code - you just need a good eye for written detail. If you are serious about Web-building then eventually you will have to understand HTML code. Online instruction via email. HTML-Basic $60. A series of 6 lessons that start out short and simple, then build in complexity. Advanced lessons are $20 each thereafter.
8. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
One of the best ways to ensure continuity of style across a website with many pages. Makes applying a fresh look to old content very easy. Lessons instruct you on an efficient method of building a useful style-sheet template that documents usage and effect. This module also looks at what works and what doesn't between Internet Explorer and Netscape navigator browsers. Describes the various components used to create the overall visual presentation of the website logos, headings, drawings, photos, animations, text content, lists, tables, frames, forms. We look briefly at the skill levels and tools required with overviews of how the various effects are achieved. Includes tutorial on slicing images using Photoshop. Online study $60. Choose from 3 tutorials that introduce the basic concepts of simple web animation using GifBuilder (shareware for Mac) and Macromedia Flash.
Looks at various ways of putting a website together in terms of user navigation. Covers setting up and targeting frames, and some basic javascript functions such as 'roll-overs', tool-tips, status bar messages, pop-up windows, and more. Online study $60 includes mentor. Notes only $25.

Desktop publishing for the web. For the experienced, Dreamweaver makes professional web development a lot easier. Although a novice can produce web pages with Dreamweaver I highly recommend the concepts covered in Modules 3, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13 as very useful prerequisites.
